A legacy of timeless charm
The Juana story
In the 1930s, Juan-les-Pins became one of the most sought-after destinations on the Riviera, attracting an international clientele drawn to its elegance and lifestyle. Inspired by this buzz, Alexandre Barache commissioned Georges Dikansk to build the Hôtel Juana in 1931y, a renowned architect of the French Riviera who designed many famous buildings that are now listed as historic monuments.
The establishment soon began hosting distinguished guests such as the Aga Khan III, Edward VIII, and Winston Churchill. In the 1960s, the hotel became an emblematic venue for artists and jazz figures. Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald all contributed to its legend, closely linked to the Jazz à Juan Festival.
In 1984, the hotel also made its mark on the history of fine dining under the leadership of Alain Ducasse, before’be acquired by the Belles Rives Group in 2006 under the leadership of Marianne Estène-Chauvin.
A legend born of jazz
In the 1920s, Jazz emerged as the soundtrack to a carefree era. The Charleston, ragtime, blues, and Negro spirituals accompanied the festive life of the seaside resort.
In 1950, the town became a mecca for the New Orleans jazz revival, marked by the presence of Sidney Bechet. Since the 1960s, the Hôtel Juana has played a central role in welcoming artists for the Jazz à Juan Festival. Some icons as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Ray Charles were regulars there, sometimes staying up late into the night to jam at the bar.
Even today, the Jazz à Juan Festival continues thisyour tradition every July with an eclectic lineup featuring contemporary artists such as Diana Krall, Sting, Lionel Richie, Tom Jones, Gregory Porter, Seal or still Stevie Wonder.
